But the weather was perfect, as he wanted his portraits to have a “Pacific Northwest” feel. So Eric dawned a rain parka and we let the rain-soaked ferns and trees set the ambiance. Makeup artist Sasha Steifel and I gave a fashion twist to this “Steampunk” collaborative portrait session. Steampunk is a genre of science fiction. It incorporates anachronistic technologies inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. The steampunk culture embraces artistic styles, clothing, and fashions developed from steampunk fiction and the Victorian era. And it has inspired art nouveau designs and a range of films throughout the mid–20th century. Some popular steampunk-inspired films include “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and the more recent “Wild Wild West” and “Sherlock Holmes.”
