Emily is a high school senior at Lake Oswego High School who loves listening to music, drawing, painting and writing. She also performs in theater. And boasts about the fact that she was once in four separate countries in a single week (the United States, Canada, England, and France).
Emily aptly describes herself as imaginative, creative, sensitive, and independent. She’s a serious high school student, but also looking forward to planning a road trip with her best friends soon after she graduates!
Emily is tall (as in taller than me tall!) with pale skin, strawberry blond hair and beautiful green eyes. As a result, she wanted high school senior pictures that would complement those features, especially her eyes and that could be used as headshots for acting and college applications.
Soon after they contacted me about Emily’s high school senior portraits. I provided Emily and her mom with a phone consultation to help them style her senior pictures and plan the logistics of her portrait session.
We had some detailed conversations about clothing choices, which was followed by Emily and her mom went digging through Emily’s closet and sending me photos of outfits they were considering for Emily’s senior pictures. We worked together to develop a set of outfits that would complement Emily, her personality, and her “original” wardrobe style.
We also considered several different locations for Emily’s high school senior pictures. But ultimately we settled on the campus of Lewis and Clark College where Emily’s mom works. Lewis and Clark College is a private school that generally prohibits portrait sessions on campus. But thanks to Emily’s mom we were able to get special permission to photograph Emily in and around Lewis and Clark’s beautiful gardens and reflection pool.
Emily’s original high school senior portrait session was scheduled during a heat wave, where there temperatures in Portland reached over 100 degrees! Nobody wanted to put on makeup and be photographed in that weather, so we postponed her portrait session for a few weeks.
When it was finally time for Emily’s high school senior pictures, we started at the top of the Lewis and Clark Campus. We photographed her on the patio of the Manor House and along the stone pathways that meander throughout he campus. Then we worked our way down the hill into the beautifully manicured gardens at Lewis and Clark.
And we took full advantage of the reflecting pool. The stone walls surrounding the pool that are covered with moss and ferns provided an incredible background that complemented Emily’s eyes and the outfits she had chosen for her high school senior portrait session.
We finished the evening by taking a family portrait of Emily, an only child, with her Mom and Dad who accompanied her for her high school senior portrait shoot. The family portrait is now displayed beautifully on the living room wall in her parent’s home. And many of the other images you see here have been printed and hung throughout their home.
