Why high school senior portraits? I love photographing high school senior portraits. But the reasons why might just surprise you!

From a photographer’s perspective, high school seniors are a blast. Many senior’s are creative and energetic; Some are fearless and willing to try absolutely anything.

And *everyone* brings a special spirit and their own unique personality to their high school senior portrait session!

But my love of high school senior photography actually goes much deeper than what happens on the day of the shoot.

I am humbled by the knowledge that I am creating a piece of beautiful art and family history that will become a treasure for generations to come.

Moreover, I take a great deal of pride in giving a voice to the young men and women who choose to work with me.

I believe strongly that great high school senior portraits can help give a high school senior the self-confidence to make the most of their future and to create positive change in the world.

Your high school senior portraits allow you to make YOUR statement to the world.

For the first time in history, you have an incredible opportunity to use your high school senior pictures to make a statement—your statement!

And few things give me more joy than to be able to use my skill as a photographer to help you tell the world about who you are, what you love, who you adore, what you believe in, the things you will do, and the type of person that you will become.

You might not know that high school senior portraits are uniquely American. In fact, if you ask people outside of North America about their high school senior portraits, chances are they won’t have any idea what you are talking about.

In the United States, formal high school senior portraits date back to at least the 1880s. Back then, senior pictures were made against a simple black or white backdrop. Senior boys were photographed in tuxedos and senior girls were draped in silk or fur and wore a traditional pearl necklace.

Nowadays, high school senior portraits are quite different! Your senior pictures can include almost any pose or clothing type you desire. They can be taken inside or outdoors, with your pets or people that you love, and can show off your special skills, hobbies, and interests. There’s a whole lot of room to be creative and give your senior portraits your own unique twist. And I’m here to help you do just that!

Let’s be glad that today’s senior pictures are nothing like the formal images your parents and grandparents were once forced to endure!

But, believe it or not, your high school senior portraits are actually connected to a long and important tradition that dates back to the dawn of human civilization. For thousands of years, cultures across the world have celebrated a teenager’s transition to adulthood. Parties are thrown, intricate ceremonies are carried out…and today, photographs are taken.

Now, you might think that this tradition—and that your high school graduation—is outdated and trivial. Sure, you’ve taken the required classes, passed a few tests, and you might even manage to score some extra cash at your high school graduation party! But, the fact is that this is one of the most important times in your life. What you do in the coming year will chart the course of the rest of your life, and one thing is for certain: you will never again be the same person that you are today.

Your high school senior portraits are a chance to capture this moment in your life for you, your family and future generations.

When I capture your high school senior portraits, you might think I’m creating them for you. (And I bet your mom probably thinks that I’m creating them for her!) But, the truth is that I’m creating these pictures for a person who will someday mean the entire world to you, even though you’ve never met them. In fact, they haven’t yet been born.

You see, when I take a high school senior portrait, my goal is to create a beautiful piece of art that your parents will be proud to hang on the walls of their home and that you will someday pass on to your grandchild as a family heirloom. Together, we are creating a piece of your family’s history. And for me, this is a great privilege, a tremendous honor and an important responsibility that I take very seriously.

Your high school senior portraits will make you proud of who you are and excited about the person you will become.

My goal as your photographer isn’t just to make you look great in your high school senior portraits — that’s a given. That’s the bare minimum you should expect from any professional photographer.

Instead, my goal is to give you an amazing experience that leaves you feeling as good about yourself as you’ll look in your pictures—an experience that will leave you energized and excited about what your future has in store.

We’re all secretly insecure about the way we appear in pictures. Girls want to look beautiful; Guys just want to look cool.

And a great high school senior portrait will build your self-confidence, reassure you of your skills and talents, and make you feel ready to go out and take on the world.

But creating an amazing high school senior portrait involves a great deal of planning, creativity, and skill.

I’m proud to say that I’ve spent years practicing my craft: understanding every aspect of how a camera is used to capture an image, learning to see and shape light, studying the art of posing, and mastering the art of using digital technology to retouch and enhance what could not be captured in camera in a way that leaves a beautiful and natural result.

When I create a high school senior portrait, I use every tool in the toolbox, and combine years of study and experience to create an image that will leave you feeling attractive, self-confident, and ready to make your mark on the world!
