I recently had the pleasure of photographing Milo, an adorable six-week old Australian Labradoodle puppy, in my studio. This breed is known for its intelligence, friendliness, and hypoallergenic coat. And Milo sure made for an energetic and engaging subject! Milo’s owners wanted to create some precious memories of their new puppy before he grew up. And if you know me, you know that I can never pass up the opportunity to photograph a cute puppy, no matter the age!

Why Professional Pet Photography Matters

Anyone who owns a pet, especially a dog as cute as Milo, knows that out pets are cherished members of our families. Just like children, they deserve to have their portraits taken and hung up with pride on the walls of our homes.

Our pets grow and change so quickly. Professional pet ortraits allow you to freeze those precious moments in time. A professional photographer has the skills, equipment, and experience to capture your pet in the best light so that every detaiil from their soulful eyes to the texture of their fir to the size of those paws is are beautifully preserved. And a well-crafted pet portrait is so much mroe more than just a photograph; it’s a piece of art that adds warmth and personality to your home.

A great pet photographer understands that, just like humans, every pet has their own, unique personality and will strive to bring out the best in your furry friend, ensuring that their individuality shines through in each photo.

Fun with Milo

Milo’s was a sweetheart, and his session was so much fun from start to finish! I used a variety of backgrounds to bring out the best in Milo.
Some of the images were captured on a simple white background, which produced clean and timeless images that helped show off some of his expressions. In other images, I chose a blue background, which is a complementary color to Milo’s orange-colored fur providing images with an especially pleasing color contrast. And I also chose a brown “old masters” style background to give him a more regal look.

Each backdrop complemented Milo’s soft, wavy coat and expressive eyes. The result was a series of stunning images that perfectly captured Milo’s charm and spirit.
And of course, pet portraits sessions aren’t just about the pet. Equally important is the opportunity to capture images that show the relationship that our pets have to their people. So we made sure to create some of those images as well.

Outdoor vs. Studio Sessions

While Milo’s session took place in my comfortable studio, pet portraits can also be taken outdoors. Each setting offers its own unique advantages. Studio Sessions allow for controlled lighting, diverse backdrops, and a relaxed environment. Studio sessions are ideal for capturing detailed and polished portraits. Outdoor Sessions can offer beautiful natural light and scenic backgrounds which can provide a more spontaneous “in their element” feel to pet photographs. Parks, gardens, and even urban settings can add an extra layer of interest and beauty to your pet’s portraits. And these outdoor locations also provide more of an opportunity to show your pet in action such as running, jumping, chasing a ball or frisbee, or rolling in the field.

The Joy of Pet Photography

Pet photography is not just about the end result; the process itself is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. During Milo’s session we played with toys, enjoyed treats, and shared lots of cuddles. This playful interaction ensured that Milo (and the humans in the room) felt relaxed and happy, which truly reflected in his portraits.

As an experienced pet photographer, but also as the proud parent of two spunky cats and an anxious but sweet border collie. I understand the bond between you and your pet. My goal is to create beautiful, heartfelt images that celebrate this special relationship.

With years of experience as a certified professional photographer and a genuine love for animals, I strive to bring out the best in every pet I photograph. Each portrat session is tailored to you and your pet, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I help you every step of the way from initially planning to final print, and I am committed to providing you with high-quality, artistic images that you’ll cherish forever.
