Orcas Island is the largest island in the San Juan archipelago, a chain of islands located in the Salish Sea in Northwest Washington.
One of my favorite places on Orcas Island is Rustic Falls, a small waterfall along Cascade Creek inside Moran State Park on Orcas Island. The water gracefully cascades about 10 feet into a shallow pool. And a large tree rests at the top of the falls, providing for a unique and interesting photograph. This image, entitled “Forces of Nature” recently merited at the Professional Photographer Association’s International Print Competition.
Orcas Island has become one of our family’s favorite vacation destinations. And not just for its natural beauty, of which there is plenty. We love it because it’s the kind of place you can go without any schedule and know that you will still have a great time despite the lack of pre-planning.
From hiking to playing on the beach, to having a delicious brunch at one of the local bakeries, there is no shortage of fun and relaxing options on Orcas Island. And it’s an ideas place to capture beautiful and candid portraits of the family, children, and pets.
