Sophie is a high school senior and a cheerleader at Sherwood High School. But when asked what she likes to do, Sophie is more likely to talk about drawing, listening to music, or hanging out with friends.
She describes herself as outgoing and adventurous. She loves to travel (which is high on her to do list after graduation and before heading off to college). And her favorite dish is sushi.
Sophie really wanted her high school senior portraits taken in a rural area. She was especially looking for an open field in the background. So, after some searching and discussion, we settled on Powell Butte, a Portland Recreational Park, near Gresham, Oregon
Powell Butte is a special place. On the one side you’ll find a lush valley of large cedar trees, and on the other, you’ll find vast open meadows. Sophie and I decided to spend most of her senior portrait session in the meadow. This provided the rural field look that Sophie really wanted for her senior pictures.
I always encourage my high school senior portrait clients to bring at least two to four different outfits to their portrait session. Sometimes we use them, and sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we mix and match outfits to create the perfect style that matches our location.
This process makes sure that my high school senior portrait clients end up with a wide range of looks in their final senior pictures.
We also explored some of the woods at the edge of the fields. And we even found some flowers despite that we were well past the season for wild flowers.
The Powell Butte Nature Park is home to a great deal of wildlife. In fact, a group of deer insisted on photobombing Sophie’s senior portrait session!
