It’s always inspirational to work with professional makeup artist Sasha Steifel, who merged gothic and victorian era elements into this creative portrait collaboration. Our model, Abby, was incrediby patient, as her hair needed to be wrapped around a ball of stryofoam to hold it in place.

A gold hair piece, white powder to give an elizabethan look, and a mix of colorful eye makeup all contributed to the final look. The cool tones around her eyes combined with the warmer golden elements of her hair give a stunning color contrast to the final images.

Most of the imagery photographed during this session was made in the studio, but we did venture outside for a bit. Once outide, I decided to use some creative lighting to turn day into night. I adjusted the settings in my camera to darken the background to give a cool, blue hue to the ambient light, and then used a set of gels on my studio lights to restore the war tones on the model.
